 Purpose:  This course focuses on common conditions seen in geriatric patients especially in the nursing home and the nurse‚Äôs role in the management of these conditions, with consideration given to race and culture. The course begins with a look at geriatric assessment; then the course will look at multiple chronic diseases including: dementia, diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux.

7. List three common and three worrisome signs and symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
8. Identify the role of treatment of GERD on the prevention of complications.
